Hockey Fore All Builds Momentum
With the help of our community, the Durham Family Advisory Board (DFAB) has been making significant strides in promoting inclusivity in minor hockey through their “Hockey Fore All” initiative.
Recognizing the financial barriers that often prevent children from participating in the sport, DFAB has partnered with the Whitby Minor Hockey Association to provide essential support. This support was recently recognized in an article written by the CBC.
A pivotal moment for the initiative came when the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) contributed 10 sets of gear through their Goals & Dreams program. This generous donation, combined with DFAB’s fundraising efforts, enabled 16 children to take to the ice, fully equipped and ready to play.
The impact of “Hockey Fore All” extends beyond just playing the game. By eliminating the financial constraints, the initiative fosters a sense of community and belonging among participants. Parents and children alike have expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play Canada’s game.
DFAB’s commitment to accessibility in hockey is evident in their continuous efforts to secure funding and resources through their annual DFAB Charity Golf Classic Tournament. Their collaboration with organizations like the NHLPA and local hockey associations exemplifies the power of community partnerships in creating lasting change.
As “Hockey Fore All” progresses, DFAB and Whitby Minor Hockey remain dedicated to breaking down barriers and ensuring that every child has the chance to experience the joy of hockey. We will be looking to expand our programs into other cities in Durham Region, but to do that we need your help by entering the tournament or becoming a corporate sponsor!
